MSI has released new information on the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50. The WQHD monitor is described in more detail, with additional technical specifications and enhanced safety features.
MSI is expanding its monitor portfolio with another gaming-oriented model with a QD OLED panel and “AI functions”. The MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 combines the very high refresh rate of 500 Hz with a refined OLED panel care with real-time human recognition. The 27-inch monitor (display with 26.5 inches) uses the usual 16:9 format with 2,560 × 1,440 pixels. Professional e-athletes can optionally have the image section on the display reduced to 24.5 inches without reducing the maximum refresh rate. In addition, a VESA ClearMR 21000 and DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification are included (basically lower motion blur and minimum peak brightness of 500 cd / m2; both are nothing unusual and to be expected for a premium OLED with 500 Hz).
MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 with AI protection with OLED Care 3.0
MSI relies on its own so-called “OLED Care 3.0” to extend the panel life (to reduce the burning of the image into the pixels over time) and to reduce energy consumption. The focus here is on the “AI Care” sensor, consisting of an NPU and a CMOS module, which detects the presence of users every 0.2 seconds. If no user is detected in front of the display, the monitor can automatically activate protection mechanisms against burn-in or energy-saving functions. Similar detection mechanisms have already been implemented on other OLED monitors for several years, but are usually limited to pure distance measurements.
In the case of MSI’s new solution, the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 would also switch to panel maintenance if, for example, there is only a swivel chair at the table (in contrast to simpler distance sensors). Otherwise, the recommended interval for panel maintenance has been extended from 16 to 24 hours, which should reduce interruptions in operation.

According to MSI, all analyses within the framework of OLED Care 3.0 are performed directly on the NPU of the monitor itself. Neither image data nor sensor evaluations are stored or transferred to a cloud via the computer. This is to ensure presence recognition without interfering with privacy. MSI grants a three-year warranty on the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50, which expressly also includes conceivable burn-in damage to the OLED panel.

Other key data
Two HDMI 2.1 inputs (with VRR support for modern consoles) and a DisplayPort 2.1a port according to UHBR20 standard with up to 80 Gbit/s bandwidth are available for the connection. In addition, there is a USB Type-C port that provides up to 98 watts of power to power external devices. Under Windows, the monitor can be configured via the MSI Gaming Intelligence app and fine-tuned if necessary. According to the data sheet, the QD OLED panel is equipped with an anti-reflection layer (how strong this is can only be assessed more accurately in tests). At the time of writing, the monitor is still listed on Geizhals with the old 272QR name without offers by Pc Decode.
