Battlefield 6 is causing controversy: According to the developer, a significant portion of the community uses PCs that are just above or even Battlefield 6 Many players remain below minimum requirements.

When Battlefield 6 entered the open testing phase, the community was interested not only in gameplay and new content, but also in the performance on hardware of different strengths. Now there is evidence that a considerable proportion of PC gamers experienced the action game on systems that were only slightly above or even below the minimum requirements.

In an interview with Eurogamer, technical director Christian Buhl spoke about initial evaluations. According to this, it was a “significant number” of players who started with very simple equipment. Although Electronic Arts did not want to or could not give exact figures, the trend is clear: Battlefield 6 does not only run on high-end PC.

In order for this to become possible, the developers had to put a lot of work into optimization, according to their own statement. Maps have been adapted, technical assets have been revised and the performance has been balanced in such a way that the game offers a stable experience even on older computers. The aim was to serve both users with minimal equipment and enthusiasts with ultra settings equally.

However, according to Buhl, this was not a matter of course: numerous technical compromises were necessary to achieve the desired result. Especially in the area of level design, content had to be adapted in order to create a reasonable balance between appearance and performance.

In this context, Electronic Arts emphasizes the importance of so-called min-Spec systems. Even if high-end hardware makes for impressive screenshots, it is above all the wide base of cheaper PC that keeps a game alive. A large part of the players cannot or do not want to invest in new hardware at the moment. However, the latest data also make it clear that this group is larger than many would have expected. This makes it all the more important to make Battlefield 6 playable on low-end systems.

Buhl also refers to internal tests that had already been carried out in the development phase. These have shown that targeted optimizations can cover a wide range of hardware, even below the official recommendations.
