EA officially confirms that Battlefield 6 will run at up to 120 fps on consoles thanks to Performance Mode. But a closer look at the official specs reveals that it’s not quite that simple.
Battlefield fans can look forward to a real tech boost: as Electronic Arts has confirmed in an official e-mail to existing EA account owners, Battlefield 6 should be able to reach up to 120 frames per second on consoles, which would be a significant leap compared to previous series parts. Sounds impressive, but the details show that there are certain differences between the platforms.
Battlefield 6 uses performance mode for maximum frame rate
According to the e-mail, the basic versions of the PS5 and Xbox Series X reach around 80 Fps in performance mode, while the PS5 Pro should actually approach the 120 Fps mark under ideal conditions. On the Xbox Series X, the target mark is at a refresh rate of about 80 to 90 Fps – depending on the resolution, which is capped at 1280p.
Digital Foundry was already able to confirm measured values in the open Beta: with VRR enabled, the PS5 reached up to 110 Fps, but fluctuated on average between 80 and 90 frames per second. Thus, the 120 Fps promise seems to be a theoretical maximum rather than a stable standard.
The developers also promise optimized support for the upcoming PS5 Pro, including higher resolutions and more stable frame rates. Thus, Battlefield 6 should probably take full advantage of the console hardware. This approach should certainly be welcomed by Battlefield fans as connoisseurs of large-scale multiplayer battles.
Whether Battlefield 6 can ultimately keep the high technical promises, however, will only become clear at the release. But if you want to experience maximum frame rates, you will probably have to use the PS5 Pro or a powerful PC. Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10, 2025 and is already one of the most anticipated titles of the year.
