AV Linux MXE-25 is a multimedia distribution specifically aimed at artists and creative professionals who work with music, photos and videos and want to use a free operating system based on Linux.
The AV Linux MX Edition – AV Linux for short – is a multimedia-centric distribution for artists and creatives who work with music, photos and videos and want to use a free operating system based on Linux. The latest version has been released and is based on MX Linux 25, Debian GNU/Linux 13 (“Trixie”) and the optimized Liquorix system kernel, which guarantees reduced latencies.
The latest release uses the particularly resource-saving and customizable desktop Enlightenment 0.27.1 at the factory, while MX Moksha 25, a new offshoot with its own system image, uses the well-known Bodhi Linux desktop Moksha 0.4.1. While Enlightenment uses an extremely reduced design language with flat elements, Moksha is very colorful.

In addition to the more than 64,000 software packages from the official Debian repositories, AV Linux also provides users with its own package sources with numerous curated multimedia applications, tools and plug-ins, including Ardour 8.12, a powerful open-source Digital Audio workstation (“DAW”), the KXStudio for professional audio production and Cinelerra for video production. Artists will find everything they need here.
Numerous predefined scripts are intended to make life much more pleasant for artists and creative people and, if desired, permanently automate recurring workflows and tasks.
If a certain software cannot be found either in the repositories of Debian GNU/Linux or in the package collection of AV Linux MXE-25, it can also be easily installed from any third-party sources in a secure sandbox environment via the free container format Flatpak.
Further information about AV Linux MXE-25 can be found in the announcement as well as in the detailed release notes. The latest system images are available for download on the official website.
