According to a test, the power level adjustment on the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is said to make Intel’s Lunar Lake CPU the fastest gaming CPU for handhelds.
Techpowerup recently tested the MSI Claw 8 AI+ with Lunar Lake-based Core Ultra 7 258V and the Xe-2 GPU Arc 140V and was informed by Intel that the factory default settings should lag behind the maximum performance. The reason for this is the factory-identical power levels PL1 and PL2. The official specification for Lunar Lake actually stipulates that PL2 is always at least 1 watt higher than PL1 or should always be set to the maximum TDP of 37 watts.
This should lead to the CPU doing so whenever it can achieve an additional boost. According to the test, this leads to a performance increase of 10 percent across the entire game suite and even results in up to 30 percent more performance in some scenarios. According to the report, an update is now also available for the MSI Center M app, which defines PL2 in such a way that it is always at least 1 watt higher than PL1 and the two values can no longer be adjusted.
MSI Claw 8 AI+: Up to 30 percent more Fps with PL2 adjustment
In the post-test with the adjusted PL2 setting, Cyberpunk 2077 and Space Marine 2, for example, achieved a performance increase of almost 30 percent. As a result, the MSI Claw AI+ A2VM with the Lunar Lake processor is the most powerful device that has been tested overall so far, according to Techpowerup, and even surpasses most AMD-based devices in its own test suite. According to the original, Lunar Lake is currently the most powerful gaming processor for handheld devices.
