Lenovo efficient 5K monitor with IPS Black and 120 Hz is presenting a counterpart to Dell U4025QW at IFA 2025 in the form of the ThinkVision P40WD-40. This 40″ monitor also delivers the high 5K resolution of 5,120 × 2,160 pixels in 21:9 format with 120 Hz on an IPS black panel with high contrast. Thanks to panel replay technology, electricity is also saved.
ThinkVision P40WD-40 with 5K WUHD
With the ThinkVision P40WD-40, Lenovo is addressing “professionals who are looking for more screen space and an outstanding visual experience” in its own words. Even if it’s not UHD+ with 5,120 × 2,880, the monitor still delivers a good 11 million pixels and achieves a pixel density of 140 ppi, just like a 4K UHD monitor with 31.5 inches.

ThinkVision P40WD-40 IPS Black doubles the contrast
While conventional IPS monitors have a contrast ratio of about 1,000:1, the ThinkVision P40WD-40 has a contrast ratio of 2,000:1, which is twice as high. This is what makes “IPS Black” possible, a further development of IPS technology introduced by LG Display almost four years ago. Initially, IPS Black was only available on 60 Hz monitors. With Lenovo’s new addition, however, there are IPS Black and “Wide UHD” in combination with 120 Hz, as is also the case with the Dell U4025QW mentioned at the beginning.
The display is slightly curved within a radius of 2.5 meters and is supposed to cover 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. The variety of connections is abundant, because there is HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 as input and output, Thunderbolt 4 (also in / out), five USB-A sockets and two USB-C as well as a network connection with 2.5 Gbit / s, which is anything but standard fare.
Lenovo exhibited the P40WD-40 with a current meter at the booth. This showed a low power consumption of around 38 watts during operation for a display of this size. According to Lenovo, panel replay technology helps to dynamically adjust the refresh rate, which in turn increases efficiency. It is also the “first desktop monitor with a variable refresh rate of 24 to 120 Hertz”.
However, the Dell U4025QW also supports a dynamic refresh rate and, according to the data sheet, it is also similarly frugal in operation with 39.5 watts. In the end, it will probably be the same panel anyway.
ThinkVision P40WD-40 Key data, price and availability
The ThinkVision P40WD-40 is expected to be available from November 2025, Lenovo says. The “entry price” is quoted at 1,499 euros excluding VAT. If this is added to this, then a proud 1,784 euros will result.

Proof-of-Concept: NaturaSynth Display
The NaturaSynth Display, presented in parallel, is not yet a series product, but rather a feasibility study. This is to bring the blue light content to below 1% with a “hardware-based blue light filter technology”. According to Lenovo’s statements, the natural light is imitated and “a new level of eye comfort” is achieved. However, there was no opportunity to check these statements for the colleagues on site.
